John Crippen/Crippin List - Non-Military Data

This is to introduce new John Crippen information who, in general, have not been discussed on the Yahoo Crippen Group site. Because of the amount of data, the John Crippen lists will be broken out in Non-Military vs Military. Military lists will be broken down by War. John Crippen info after 1899 will not be included, unless I "goofed" or it seemed semi-pertinent. Census data not included, as Census Crippens, in the future, will be covered as a topic on FamilyTrail parent website. There may be duplicate records for the same John Crippen, as no attempt was made to group records together. Encountered were several J. Crippens, not included. Although the info was interesting, they may not be a John Crippen. In future, those with an initial J may be included, when we figure out who's a James and who's a John. As with any information pertaining to genealogy research, if it seems real, maybe it is, and then maybe it's not. If it looks doubtful, question it, do more digging, especially when the data is a family book. (nothing against Family Name Books, but sometimes the researchers appeared in too much of a hurry to fill in their "holes".) This data is only provided as a guide.

This will be a work in progress. Hopefully by organizing the "Johns" we all can see our way to who they ultimately belong to.....and probably FIND MORE!

Following Added 09-05-2004:

John Poulson Crippen
Accomack Co., Virginia. Named in the Abstract Will of Rosey Crippen, Proved 27 Jan. 1823. John Poulson was son of Rosey. Rosey was the Widow of Savage Crippen of Accomack Co. Also mentions her dau. Narcissa, "friend" Samuel Crippen, "my brother Robert Russell", Signed Rosey Crippen, 10 July 1815. Witnesses, Samuel Crippen and Leah Brundick. Virginia Soldiers of 1776, Page 543.

John P. Crippen

(Assumption is Warrant is for land claim, Ellis name has bearing for next entry).

John P. Crippen
This ones a little difficult to figure out. Under columns headed A-B is listed the name of Thomas Bonnewell. Column C (which identifies Military rank) states Master. Column D stated 7,284 (appears to be a sequential #'ing process). Column E states 444 4/9 (poss. acreage). Column F states John P. Crippen and Narcissa Crippen. Column G Vespasian Ellis, the Atty. (from above listing). U. S. Treasury Report, Revolutionary Land Scriptions, Page 295.

Thomas Bonwell was a Master in the VA. State Navy, went to sea about 40 years ago & has never been heard from since that time, and is supposed to have drowned, he left no children, but left 6 brothers and sisters of the whole blood. That Richard, the brother of Thomas died before 1831, that he had a daughter Rosa, who married Savage Crippen and their children were John P. and Narcissa. Virginia Soldiers of 1776, Vol. I, II, III, Page 542. He did have a will in which many people were listed, who died intestate (so it really got messy).

Add'l data: Memo made by Clerk of land office: 7284 (ties back to the Column D entry) to John N. (probably P.) and Narcissa Crippen. Virginia Soldiers of 1776, Page 1284.

This item is in entry status, a few more items remain to be entered. I will attempt to go through the Yahoo Crippen Group and extract the John Crippens you all have provided. Add them in here, along with your original submittor name....a task which may take awhile. Then maybe we can make some sense of the JOHN CRIPPEN puzzle.
