This extensive book (over 300 pages) begins with Peter Elder who, according to family tradition, came to America in the early 1600s along with two brothers. Though no records of their immigration have been found, they are said to have landed in Norfolk, Virginia. "Peter came over as a stowaway and working out his passage with a rich merchant, it required several years. His brothers later went on to other parts of the country. One to Maryland and one to Ohio and then on to Harrisburg, Pa," continues the rich family history. Peter's Will, probated 1674 in Rappahannock, Virginia (now Essex Co), named only one child, Peter, who was "bequeathed" to the child's godfather Richard Peacock until "my son comes to be one and twenty-four years of age." Many
descendants of Peter Elder are brought down to present time in this
softbound book. In addition to the descendants chart (with 30,221
names), color pictures of the early Elder Cemetery near Watkensville
