James Elder lived on a plantation in KY at one time and operated a river boat. I know of four of his children: Annie Viola b:Nov 17 1842, Emma b:abt 1854, Charlie and Harry. James’ wife is said to be the former Fanny Davis or maybe Mary Davis born in KY. Annie Viola spoke of being raised on the KY plantation and riding on her father’s river boat. Annie Viola married Arthur Fleming in CA, 1872. Emma married James D. Faris in Los Angeles, CA, 1873. Fanny and her two daughters came to CA about 1871. Charlie owned race horses and did not come to CA. Harry also did not come to CA as he was attending university.
