Hello,
My Elders didn't originate in Tacoma, but headed west from Maine and some of them went west to Tacoma, Washington when the railroad went there in 1888? My GG-grandfather, Samuel Bracket Elder and his brother Ferdinand Alvah Elder settled there after spending time in Illinois, Iowa and Minnesota.
There are still Elders in the area and I have been in touch with them a little bit, very nice people that my Grandma knew well. I have lots of photos and a family bible. Fun stuff : )
I know that Samuel Bracket Elder and his father Elvahton W. Elder are buried at the Tacoma cemetery with other relations. It is on my list of places to visit!
Samuel's son Frederick Eugene Elder (my G grandfather) settled in Chicago, which is where I was raised. |

Thanks for posting the Tacoma WA ELDER info.
I have ELDER documents in WA, but they came
from PA then through OH>MI>WA>MT>OR.
My grandfather Martin Pascal ELDER apparently took the train across from
Monroe County Michigan to Seattle Washington soon after his college graduation
in Michigan in 1908. My father Martin Irwin Elder was born in Bothell Washington
in 1912. He had 2 brothers born in Montana, and a sister born in Bothell.
They all moved to Eugene Oregon about 1926, where I was born in 1940.
I'm still working on the PA and Scotland clues, especially through the DNA project.
Adding to PERTHSHIRE Scotland ELDER research here:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~nancyelder/ed/Perth.htm
Also see ROBERT ELDER in biographical sketch
(d.1807 Fannett Township, Franklin Co PA)
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~nancyelder/ed/RobertBio.htm
"...was born near PERTH on the Tay, Scotland, migrating about 1737 to
the vicinity of Lough Inch or Lough Swilly,
County Donegal, Ireland, from that point emigrating to...Pennsylvania...."
Maybe we can find MAINE and PA connections back in Scotland!
Do you have any research from Ireland or Scotland?
