"Descendants of James Elder Sr.
of Armstrong and Clarion Counties Pennsylvania"

Compiled by Sharon Robinson Huffman: Sharhuff@aol.com
Assisted by: Lavon Elder Mundinger and Ann M. Brooks

Little is known of James ELDER, Sr., before he came to Western Pennsylvania. There are records of a James ELDER in Slippery Rock Twp, in what is now Butler Co. as early as 1799. Some land records have been found in today's Warren Co. of ELDERs, including James before 1810. James and family appeared in Toby Twp., Armstrong County, by 1810. This area in 1839 became Perry Twp, Clarion County.

James ELDER (1769/1837) was married twice and had eighteen children. His first wife was Catherine BUCHANAN (1769/1813) was mother of the first eleven; His second wife was Sarah "Sally" HAGAN (born ca 1795) who was mother of the last seven.

In 1995 a history of the family, "DESCENDANTS OF JAMES ELDER, SR. OF ARMSTRONG AND CLARION COUNTIES, PENNSYLVANIA," was compiled by Sharon Robinson Huffman, assisted and edited by Lavon Elder Mundinger and Ann M. Brooks. The original printing was limited to just a few copies and distributed to those who had been researching and working together on the family. It was intended as a research tool to keep everyone on track as to where they had been and where they were going. More copies with supplements were made as other ELDER researchers requested them, and an approximate 5-year time limit was put in place for receipt of additional information. The following is a description and purchase policy.

The book contains (in addition to the normal intro pages), 176 pp of text, 3 pp of source information, and 39 pp of index, printed on two sides, clear plastic over the cover page, hard plastic back and spiral bound.

The cost of the book is$30.00 postpaid, KS residents to add $1.77 sales tax.
