[Quoted from the page ref. below - "Below is a list of abstracts of Letters of Administration of Mohawk Valley residents which were filed in the Surrogate's Office in New York City in the late 18th century. Letters of Administration were generally filed for the estate of those who died intestate, or leaving no will. A good half of these men have been mentioned on our queries board or in articles on our site. The complete Letters of Administration named heirs and witnesses and went into detail about disposition of property and personal estate.
"Over 90 years have passed since these Letters were abstracted for the New York Historical Society's (New York City) journal. I do not personally know where the originals are stored, if the general public can get access to them, or anything at all about them, so unfortunately can't answer questions. Their listing on our site is provided as a clue for your own independent investigation. This list has been proof-read. Obviously incorrect and unusual spellings and punctuation of names and places are as found in the original abstracts. IMPORTANT: page numbers refer to the journal issues, not to numbers in bound copies of the Letters of Administration."]
