The following historical account of the family of
David Crippen was found in the Daughters of the American Revolution
(DAR)
Library. It was filed under family information (submitted before
1958) on Roswell Crippen of Mass. & NY. b. 1755, lived 1810 Sullivan
Co., NY. It is a photostatic copy of the original handwritten document.
It was submitted to the DAR office by Anita (Seeley) Payne with her
application for membership to the organization. Payne noted that
the original David Crippen Genealogy "is in the possession of
the great-grandson of David Crippen, the Rev. M. Ford Crippen, Dundee,
NY."
I have seen several transcribed copies of this document, and each has variations
from the original. The following is as exact a transcription as is possible.
Because of the age of the original document and the poor copy some words were
difficult to read.

In the publication "New York Genealogical and
Biographical Records", vol. 88 pp 161, July 1957 issue we also
find a copy of the David Crippen Genealogy contributed by Mrs. Hugh
M. Stevens, of Traverse, Mich., with the following additional data:
"Roswell Crippen, father of the writer of this family record,
was a soldier in the American Revolution and the War of 1812. In
the Census of 1790 he is listed as head of a family in Middletown,
Ulster (now Orange) County, N.Y.; later he moved first to Sullivan
County and then to Delaware County, both in New York State. In
1814, his son David Crippen, then married and in his thirtieth
year, moved to Roseville Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania,
where he died in 1858.
"The manuscript is presently owned by the Rev. Manning Ford Crippen of McGraw,
N.Y., and its contents should prove of interest to genealogists as well as to
Crippen descendants. During the past several years the contributor has fathered
much additional material on Crippen lines. Very little on this family has appeared
in print except for an extended account of the descendants of Silas Crippen (1759-1831)
of Worcester, Otsego County, N.Y., published in the record v. 55, pp. 251-62,
378-84 & v. 56, pp. 3-8.
"
Mrs. Stevens also added:
"in the original, the words "Father's Uncle" are
written under "My uncle Ezra." [see end of paragraph
3-Ed.] According to this record, however, Ezra would be the uncle
of David, the writer, and not of his father. The interpolation
probably refers to the Joseph Crippen whose daughter "Uncle
Ezra" married, for although this record names no female children
for Joseph, it is known from other sources that he had at least
two daughters. One of them Tabetha Crippen born Dec. 21, 1749,
married Ezra Crippen, son of John."
